Remodelling colour contrast: implications for visual processing and colour representation
نویسنده
چکیده
Colour contrast describes the influence of one colour on the perception of colours in neighbouring areas. This study addresses two issues: (i) the accurate representation of the colour changes; (ii) the underlying visual mechanisms. Observers viewed a haploscopic display in which a standard display was presented to one eye and a matching display to the other. The matches could be represented accurately using a diagram that is a logarithmic transformation of the MacLeod-Boynton (r, b) (1979) chromaticity diagram. Since haploscopic presentation has been described as isolating retinal processes (Whittle, P., & Challands, P.D.C. (1969). The effect of background luminance on the brightness of flashes. Vision Research, 9, 1095-1110; Chichilnisky, E.J., & Wandell, B.A. (1995). Photoreceptor sensitivity changes explain color appearance shifts induced by large uniform backgrounds in dichoptic matching. Vision Research, 35, 239-254), the results are discussed in terms of receptor sensitivity changes and the ratio of receptor contrasts.

Relationship in Broiler Breast Meat Quality and some Blood Parameters: Implications of Different Colours Clothes and Visual Human Contact
The goals of this research were to estimate the phenotypic relationship among various breat meat quality traits, blood parameters and tonic immobility from a broiler and to describe the relation among these variables. Broiler chicks were devided into different groups: (1) colour clothing groups represented four different colours as red, blue, green, and gray and (2) the chicks that were subject...
متن کاملThe coding of uniform colour figures in monkey visual cortex.
Psychophysical studies indicate that perception of the colour and brightness of a surface depends on neural signals evoked by the borders of the surface rather than its interior. The visual cortex emphasizes contrast borders, but it is unclear whether colour surface signals also exist, whether colour border signals are orientation selective or mainly non-oriented, and whether cortical processin...
متن کاملInduction operators for a computational colour-texture representation
The aim of this paper is to outline a perceptual approach to a computational colourtexture representation based on some colour induction phenomena. The extension of classical grey level methods for texture processing to the RGB channels of the corresponding colour texture is not the best solution to simulate human perception. Chromatic induction mechanisms of the human visual system, that has b...
متن کاملThe selectivity of responses to red‐green colour and achromatic contrast in the human visual cortex: an fMRI adaptation study
There is controversy as to how responses to colour in the human brain are organized within the visual pathways. A key issue is whether there are modular pathways that respond selectively to colour or whether there are common neural substrates for both colour and achromatic (Ach) contrast. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) adaptation to investigate the responses of early and e...
متن کاملAdaptive Colour Contrast Coding in the Salamander Retina Efficiently Matches Natural Scene Statistics
The visual system continually adjusts its sensitivity to the statistical properties of the environment through an adaptation process that starts in the retina. Colour perception and processing is commonly thought to occur mainly in high visual areas, and indeed most evidence for chromatic colour contrast adaptation comes from cortical studies. We show that colour contrast adaptation starts in t...
